We often complain about how hard life is, that we never get the time to do the things we want. Sometimes, we feel like a leaf in a river, our path determined by the river’s flow and we are powerless to do anything but go along for the ride.
What we fail to realise is that we are in fact allowing this to happen. It’s safe and easy letting the river do the work, but it’s hard when we have to start fighting the current to take a different path.
Rather than think that we can’t do a thing, focus on what motivated you to want to do that thing. Then ask yourself honestly, “Is my motivation stronger than my fear and apathy?” If you answer “Yes” (honestly!), then you have taken the first step towards taking control of your life and where it leads.
The more important step, however, is to actually DO something. If you have accepted that you have the will to do follow a new path, then start making a plan that will take you along it.
Alternatively, of course, you can remain a leaf and let the river decide your fate.
Life is for living.
