It struck me as, well, not funny, but ironic, that the year that everything went to hell was 2020. That 20-20 vision we always used to indicate perfect perception, then came a year that most of us would like to forget.
2020 has been a year of change, a year of adaptation, a year of fear and learning how to cope with a world really unlike anything that most of us have ever had to face before. We lost loved ones to the terrible virus that is still taking them.
And what was with the whole toilet paper thing??
We also saw wonderful acts of kindness, of compassion and communities drawing together. Connections were made that will last beyond the 31st December 2020. Many of us learned new skills that we can take forward into this new year.
The change of date is a tick of a clock. Things don’t magically change on the 1st January, 2021. But our attitude towards things can. We can take the lessons we learned from 2020 into this year, take the friendships, the love, the compassion with us.
There was a lot to learn from 2020. Let’s try to hold on to our 2020 hindsight and make 2021 a start to new and wonderful things.
